  No Free Lunch

It is a human nature to want to get things done quickly. The marketing industry is quite aware of this principle, and it knows exactly how to appeal to your sense of impatience.

"Get rich quick!"

"Earn a Bachelor's degree in 2 months!"

"Drop 30 pounds in 30 days!"

Do these ring a bell?

We all desire instant gratification. There is nothing wrong with wanting it. In fact, I don't think there is anyone out there (myself included) who would not want to get rich with no work, earn a diploma with no studying, or lose weight with no effort.

But you should know better... "There is no such thing is a free lunch"!

People who fall for the quick-rich schemes end up wasting their money - did they really think they can get rich stuffing envelopes? The mail-order diploma ends up doing more harm then good on a resume - did people really think they'd impress a potential employer with a degree from the "university" that advertises via junk e-mail?

Same goes for a quick weight loss. There is no shortcut. There is no miracle potion or magic pill. If there was a fast and easy way to lose weight, then everybody would be slim!

You did not gain all this weight overnight, so you can't expect to lose it fast either. Weight loss takes commitment, patience and determination. Losing weight in a healthy way is a gradual process, no more then 1 to 2 lbs a week. And you can keep this weight off only if you make permanent changes to your lifestyle.

Whenever people hear that the healthy rate of weight loss is no more then 1 to 2 pounds a week, they often get really discouraged. They say they can't wait for so long to lose weight. They want to get rid of this excess fat NOW!

As a result, these people don't even try to lose weight in a healthy way, and don't lose weight at all. They can't lose weight quickly because it simply does not work, and they don't lose weight slowly because they did not even try.

So they stay overweight after 6 months, a year, and many more years. During all this time, they could have lost weight in a healthy way many times over.

Even though 1 to 2 pounds a week seems slow, it really adds up. Do the math! 2 lbs a week add up to 50 lbs in 6 months. 1 lb a week equals 25 lbs in 6 months. Now think about how much it adds up to in a year!

If you lose even 1 pound a month, in a year you would be 12 pounds lighter. Wouldn't you rather weigh 12 pounds less then you do now?

The bottom line is that all this time you are wasting on chasing the "quick fix", you could be using to lose weight in a healthy permanent way. "Slow and steady wins the race" applies perfectly to weight loss.

There is no reason to wait. Get started losing weight the right way today!
